JINEOLOJÎ CENTER
Research Center of Women’s Social and Human Sciences
“So that the spirit of women
may touch this world,
and that this world may be touched
by women’s spirit.”
Destpêkek ji bo Jineolojî (An Introduction to Jineolojî)
What is the Jineolojî Center?
We founded our center in 2017 and started sharing our ideas in seminars, public presentations and debates developed in different parts of Europe and the world. Our long-term goal is to promote research in human and social sciences related to women’s experiences, past and present; their emancipation processes and the creation of a democratic, ecological and anti-patriarchal society.
We focus especially on the dissemination of Jineolojî through networking with local associations and collectives fighting for women’s rights and liberation. Rather than studying women’s lives and culture from an “outside” perspective, we encourage women from different communities to research and (re)write their own history and identify their interests and concerns; working together enables women to act globally. The Jineolojî center functions as a bridge between different areas of work and action, a contact center for women from different cultures and backgrounds, a space for documentation and coordination.
“The phrases referring to women in the male discourse leave traces in the social sciences, as in any other scientific field, carrying propagandistic approaches that do not correspond at all to reality. Thus, in these discourses the true situation of women is hidden at least forty times more than the histories of civilization hide class, exploitation, oppression and torture. (…) I believe that a movement for women’s freedom, equality and democracy is the key to solving our social problems; a movement that should be based on women’s science, in Kurdish called Jineolojî.”
Abdullah Öcalan
Leader of the Kurdish Freedom Movement
